The Pony Out of Time by ABronyAccount The Pony Out of Time by ABronyAccount
Drawn for EQD's NATG 3 day 26 theme: Draw a pony in or from the future/Draw a pony out of time.
First time drawing a G1 pony! Another quickie, done in two hours. Used a different set of pens for the main linework, not all that happy. They're a bit bleedier on this copy paper than my Pitts. I do like that smoke effect.

As for the story to this image? Who knows!

I agree that the pens used here lack the crispness of your previous work, and I'm sure your rush to meet the deadline didn't help matters. However, I think it's mostly the paper's fault rather than the pen's. Have you thought about putting your snazzy lines on something like bristol or vellum?

Jeebus, what do you think I am? Made out of money? QUALITY PAPER DOESN'T GROW ON TREES, YOU KNOW!

That's the same argument used by the author of the Necronomicon! And look how well that turned out!

Human skin doesn't grow on trees either!
Least, not any tree I'm familiar with. I'll have to check my forbidden tomes to be sure.

Pony Trek: Generations. Watch out for exploding suns.

Love the idea. G1 looks pretty good actually.

I referenced almost all of the pose from a screengrab of Rescue At Midnight Castle. Still think the front legs came out too short, though. Also, her cutie mark in the shot I used had the apple pattern inverted: three apples on the outside columns and two on the inside.
In any case, I still haven't actually watched any G1 yet.

You drew Applejack great, too!
While I love my G4's, I've certainly warmed up to the other generations.

You DON'T have a story for this?  I'm so disappointed.   There are so many unanswered questions when looking at this setup.

What kind of pens DID you use?

Tonight I found out by accident that if you don't wait for copic markers to dry and you go back over to thinken or make a new ink line with a pitt pen on the wet copic, it bleeds like crazy.

Well I made one up for the EQD post, but I'd like to hear what other people come up with!

For the majority of line in the figures and props, I used a Staedler .3mm pigment liner. Those were the ones I bought a couple of years ago before finding the Pitt manga set. I've been working the .1 and .7 sizes back into some of my pictures alongside the Pitt manga pens with good results, but for some reason the .3 is just less clean compared to the "S" size Pitt.

The wet-bleed thing makes sense. A wet sponge will soak up moisture more readily than a dry one, and the wet paper acts like a sponge when it's soaked with ink.

Oh that is BRILLIANT!

....And...why is Fluttershy looking in that direction?

The direction in which there's a strange-looking creature that just materialized from a seemingly mystical source?
No idea.

Hmm, I believe I see a pentagram on the floor. I think Applejack has been dabbling in the dark arts. Some things are best left in the past, silly mare.
